Cosmetic And Functional Nasal Surgery

Rhinoplasty, cosmetic surgery of the nose, is performed on people of all ages. The purpose of this procedure is to make the nose more aesthetically attractive, and is sometimes performed with septoplasty (making the procedure a septorhinoplasty) to improve breathing if indicated. The undesirable features may be the result of an accident, something one was born with, or as a consequence of aging. Some of these features include a bump, a wide or depressed nasal tip, or a crooked or otherwise asymmetric appearance.

Because the nose is the most defining characteristic of the face, even a slight alteration can cause a great improvement in appearance. It is Dr. Epstein's philosophy, obtained over the course of almost 20 years of performing thousands of aesthetic surgeries of the nose and face, including a large number of rhinoplasties, to go as conservative as possible. Rather than seeking to completely re-make a nose, he is able to improve upon those characteristics and create the overall most aesthetic result. As you can see in his many before and after photos, these noses are in harmony with the rest of the face.

In rhinoplasty, the cartilage and/or bones of the nose are delicately sculpted and repositioned. This two-hour procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis. Patients can expect some bruising and swelling around the eyes, which typically takes 3 to 7 days to resolve. Drs. Epstein and Halaas do not usually use any nasal packing, making the recovery much more comfortable. If used, packing is removed in one to two days, while the external splint is removed within the week. Most activities can be resumed after this time.
